Why should you be proactive and schedule an Air Conditioning Spring Check-up each year?

Answer: To make sure your system is prepared to keep you cool on the hottest day of the summer and to save money. By scheduling your Air Conditioning maintenance as soon as the weather hits 60 degrees, you not only get on your HVAC company’s schedule before they get too busy, but you also allow ample time to identify and prevent small problems from becoming more expensive repairs later on.

Basic things you should expect your service provider to perform during a routine Air Conditioning Spring Check-Up.

Thermostats should be checked to make sure they are calibrated accurately and ensure the system keeps you comfortable at the temperature you prefer. (Meet the Nest Learning Thermostat)

Electrical connections should be tightened and the voltage and current measured on all motors. Faulty electrical connections can cause the system to operate unsafely and reduce the efficiency and the life of major components.

Inspecting the condensate drain helps prevent a clog, which can cause water damage in the house and affect indoor humidity levels.

Checking the equipment controls ensures the system is operating properly and safely. Your technician should make sure the system starts, operates, and shuts off properly.

Cleaning evaporator and condenser coils is very important because dirty coils can reduce the system’s ability to cool your home, increase energy costs and reduce the life of the equipment.

Your air conditioner’s refrigerant level checked and adjusted if necessary. Too much or too little refrigerant will make your system less efficient increasing energy costs and reducing the life of the equipment.

Blower components should be cleaned to provide proper system airflow for optimum comfort levels. Airflow problems will reduce your system’s efficiency.

Changing or cleaning air filters (depending on the type your system uses) can be done by the homeowner but can also be done by the technician during a spring check-up. Some systems recommend changing or cleaning the filters in air conditioning systems at least once a month. If you don’t already know how, your technician can show you during your spring check up. A dirty air filter can increase energy costs and lead to additional damage to your equipment.

During a spring check-up, your Air Conditioning technician is looking for any small problems that may turn into issues down the line. For example, adding a small amount of refrigerant to replace what may have leaked throughout the winter is a minor cost compared to continuing to run the system while low and burning out your compressor. Replacing the compressor is going to cost you much more than the small amount of refrigerant.  Following manufacturer maintenance guidelines will extend the life of your equipment. Another way the spring check-up saves you money is by ensuring that your Air Conditioning equipment is working at optimal efficiency. When your system is running well, it uses less energy to cool your house, and lower energy use means bigger savings for you on your monthly utility bills.

If you wait until the heat of the summer to find out your Air Conditioning isn’t working properly, it could cost you more for an emergency service call. So beat the heat and contact Levco to schedule your Air Conditioning Spring Check-Up and one of our knowledgeable, friendly, qualified technicians will be right over to help.
