When You Partner With a Family-Run Company Like Levco, You Are Treated like Family.

Your heating and cooling systems require regular maintenance to keep them running properly. A few monthly maintenance tasks can go a long way to improve your HVAC system’s efficiency and performance. Here are some tips of what you should inspect, clean, schedule, and set for the month of February:

1. Basement Inspection – The cold weather of January pushes your equipment to its max. So February is a great time to perform a visual inspection of your equipment, looking for any noticeable leaks or corrosion. Should you notice something that does not look normal, the Levco service department is ready to give you some advice.

2. Air Filters  – It is recommended that homeowners change their air filters every thirty to ninety days. If you have disposable filters, remove the old ones and insert a clean replacement. If you have filters that are reusable, wash it according to the manufacturer’s directions and allow it to dry entirely before reinserting it into the filter compartment. Unwanted dirt and dust can clog up your system causing performance issues. You may find it necessary to replace air filters sooner than the usual 3-month mark during times of high use, in which case it’s important to keep a few back up filters handy just in case. If you are having to change air filters too often, check out our blog post: 3 Reasons Your Air Filters Get Dirty So Quickly.

3. ThermostatsIf you have battery powered thermostats it is recommended that you change the batteries at least once per year. Dead batteries cause thermostats to stop working and as a result your heating equipment will not turn on. Waking up in the morning to no heat because of a dead battery is not a pleasant experience. Being proactive about changing the batteries frequently can help you avoid this.

4. Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors – Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors monthly throughout the heating season. Test batteries each month, using the unit’s TEST button. Vacuum away any dust which has accumulated on the detectors.
