When You Partner With a Family-Run Company Like Levco, You Are Treated like Family.

The calendar may say it’s spring, but cooler temperatures are holding on like a dog to a bone. So why then, are we recommending you schedule your annual air conditioning spring check now?

First, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are all spending much more time at home. And our homes are doing extra duty as our office and even as a school. It needs to be as comfortable as we can make it.

Second, being proactive minimizes the need for emergency service during the summer,  saves you money and keeps you cool on the hottest days of the season.

Levco recommends scheduling your air conditioning spring check as soon as the weather hits 60 degrees.  This gets you on your HVAC company’s schedule before they get busy. And it allows plenty of time to identify and prevent small problems from becoming more expensive repairs later on.

Checklist for AC Spring Check:

Thermostats should be checked to make sure they are calibrated accurately and ensure the system keeps you comfortable at the temperature you prefer.  For more information on whether your thermostats, see Home Thermostats – Is it Time to Replace or Upgrade?

Electrical connections should be tightened and voltage and current measured on all motors. Faulty electrical connections cause the system to operate unsafely and reduce the efficiency and life of major components.

Inspecting the condensate drain helps prevent a clog, which would cause water damage in the house and affect indoor humidity levels.

Checking the equipment controls ensures the system is operating properly and safely. Your technician should make sure the system starts, operates and shuts off properly.

Cleaning evaporator and condenser coils is very important because dirty coils reduce the system’s ability to cool your home, increase energy costs and reduce the life of the equipment.

Your air conditioner’s refrigerant level should be checked and adjusted if necessary. Too much or too little makes your system less efficient, increasing energy costs and reducing the life of the equipment.

Blower components should be cleaned to provide proper system airflow for optimum comfort levels. Airflow problems will reduce your system’s efficiency.

Change or clean air filters (depending on the type your system uses) This can be done by the homeowner or by the technician during a spring check. Some systems recommend changing or cleaning the filters in air conditioning systems at least once a month.  Also, make sure you are using the proper type of filter for your system. Now is the time to prevent small AC problems from becoming costly repairs

During a Spring Check, your Levco technician looks for small problems that could turn into bigger issues later on.  Comparatively, the cost to replace a small amount of leaked refrigerant is minor. But, running the system when the refrigerant is low could burn out the entire compressor.  An Air Conditioning Spring Check keeps your equipment operating at optimal efficiency. When your system runs well, it uses less energy to cool your house. And lower energy use means bigger savings on your monthly utility bills.

Don’t wait until the heat of the summer to find out your Air Conditioning isn’t working properly.  Beat the heat and contact Levco now for all your cooling needs!
